Different dental hospitals or individual doctors may follow slightly different sequences in certain minor steps during the preliminary examination for clear aligner treatment, depending on their surgical habits and preferences. However, overall, several essential steps in the preoperative examination cannot be omitted to ensure optimal treatment outcomes.

1. Check for any oral diseases or other conditions that may contraindicate clear aligner treatment, such as chronic conditions like hypertension or diabetes.

2. If the oral cavity is healthy, dental impressions are taken. These are used by the doctor to diagnose the malocclusion, design the treatment plan, and serve as a comparison throughout the treatment process.

3. Photographs of the teeth are taken. Before treatment, the doctor routinely takes facial and intraoral photographs of the patient for comparison with the results at the end of treatment.

4. X-ray examination is performed. Each patient routinely has a lateral cephalometric radiograph and a panoramic radiograph taken.

5. A treatment plan is developed. Based on the models, photographs, and X-rays, the doctor measures, calculates, and diagnoses the type of malocclusion, and then formulates a detailed treatment plan. The doctor then explains the treatment plan to the patient and their family, and seeks their input. Once the treatment plan is confirmed, the patient or their family signs the consent form.

Post-Treatment Care for Clear Aligner

1. Brush your teeth after every meal following clear aligner treatment. If brushing is not convenient after meals, rinse your mouth with water or tea.

2. After clear aligner treatment, in addition to following the doctor's instructions, carefully care for the aligners on your teeth and avoid eating hard foods.

3. In the first few days after wearing the aligners, you may experience soreness, tenderness, and discomfort in your teeth. During this time, you can eat soft foods such as rice porridge or congee. After approximately one week of adaptation, you can resume a normal diet (while still paying attention to the care of your teeth and aligners).

4. For adolescents undergoing clear aligner treatment, parents should pay special attention to supervising their children in following the orthodontist's instructions, such as regular visits to the orthodontic clinic for check-ups, wire changes, and wearing rubber bands.

In summary, a comprehensive examination is necessary before clear aligner treatment. On one hand, it allows the doctor to determine how to correct the alignment and the number of treatment sessions required. On the other hand, it helps the patient understand the approximate cost of the treatment. Overall, understanding the preoperative preparation for clear aligner treatment will help ensure better treatment outcomes and a smoother treatment process.
