A set of white, well-aligned teeth is a lifelong pursuit for many. Since children's bone development is not yet complete, orthodontic treatment is best started during childhood. Don't wait until adulthood to consider treatment – the earlier the intervention, the better the results.

The optimal age for orthodontic treatment generally falls into three stages

  1. Primary Dentition Stage (Ages 4–5) This stage is primarily suitable for anterior crossbite (underbite). Early intervention facilitates maxillary development and prevents permanent dentition crossbite. If the child has bad habits (such as tongue thrusting or lip biting), these can also be corrected at this stage to prevent malocclusion.

  2. Mixed Dentition Stage (Girls: Ages 8–10, Boys: Ages 9–12) This stage is suitable for early-stage patients with functional or skeletal malocclusion caused by bad habits, tongue interference, and other factors. During the mixed dentition stage, if you notice bad habits (such as lip biting, tongue thrusting, or jaw protrusion), abnormal facial development, or misaligned teeth, you should take your child to see an orthodontic specialist for examination and consultation promptly. This stage coincides with the pre-pubertal and peak growth periods. If your child has functional or skeletal malocclusion, treatment during this phase can fully utilize the jaw's growth potential – by promoting or inhibiting jaw growth to achieve treatment goals, which is more beneficial for improving the child's facial profile and function.

  3. Early Permanent Dentition Stage (Girls: Ages 11–14, Boys: Ages 13–16) Most common malocclusion conditions can be effectively treated at this stage. By this time, most permanent teeth have erupted, the dental arch has largely completed its development, and tooth misalignment has essentially stabilized. Additionally, children at this age are still in a rapid phase of craniofacial growth, and orthodontic treatment can significantly leverage this growth potential to achieve optimal tooth movement and alveolar bone remodeling.

The Dr.Clear C3 early intervention series is like a journey through a child's growth stages – from the budding phase, to the growth phase, and finally to the maturation phase (end-stage development). At each stage of growth and development, children face different challenges – and so do their cases. During the primary dentition and early mixed dentition stages, various comprehensive issues arise, such as prevention, interception, and elimination of bad habits, caries prevention and management, and correction and guidance during the transitional occlusion period. Many issues at this stage are temporary in nature, which is why we use "Moment" to describe the condition during this period. C3 Moment – "The Right Time, Right Now" – focuses on resolving the primary stage-specific concerns of the primary and early mixed dentition phases. By addressing issues from three dimensions – jaw, muscle, and teeth – we can quickly resolve the "current" problems, lay a solid foundation for subsequent treatment, reduce the complexity of any future second-phase treatment, and avoid many irreversible consequences caused by mixed dentition malocclusion.

As children progress rapidly through growth and development, by the late mixed dentition stage, the permanent dentition enters the early establishment phase of occlusion, and the bite has begun to take initial form. At this point, many malocclusions become visibly apparent, making diagnosis relatively easier. We therefore refer to treatment at this stage as Dr.Clear C3 Finally – "Late Mixed Dentition Stage Treatment." With Dr.Clear's exclusive 5-year return-to-treatment planning, cases can be directly guided to completion in the permanent dentition stage, thoroughly eliminating concerns about the need for a second phase of treatment.

Just as our philosophy – "More Problem Lists, One Target" – suggests, regardless of the stage of intervention, the ultimate treatment goal remains clear. To achieve the definitive improvement of malocclusion and reach the ideal occlusion, our focus is always from an orthodontic perspective. We never perform meaningless orthodontics: "For Children, By Orthodontics." This is why our Dr.Clear C3 Plus Whole-Periodic Management for Children is the core product of the entire C3 family. No matter which stage a child is at, or which C3 family product is being used, patients can always switch to Dr.Clear C3 Plus at any time by paying the price difference, gaining access to the full-cycle service quality and treatment goals.
