Inserting and removing the aligner may seem simple, but if done incorrectly, it can damage the aligner or attachments and compromise treatment outcomes. When inserting the aligner, first place it over the front teeth. Once the front teeth are about halfway seated, the posterior portion of the aligner will tend to flare outward toward both sides of the dental arch. At this point, use your fingers to push the posterior portion of the aligner toward the midline. Once the posterior teeth are also mostly seated, use your fingers to press the aligner fully into place for a snug fit. To remove the aligner, reverse the process: first use your finger to hook the inner edge of the aligner at the last molar to loosen it, then push the posterior portion of the aligner outward toward the cheeks to disengage it from the attachments. Once both posterior sides are fully released, remove the anterior portion.
A common reminder: always remove the aligner before every meal. Clean it immediately using a toothbrush and toothpaste, or an ultrasonic cleaner if you prefer. After cleaning, dry the aligner and place it back in its storage case (try to keep it dry). If you do not use the case, you risk losing the aligner, and getting a replacement is both inconvenient and time-consuming. After eating, brush your teeth thoroughly before reinserting the aligner, so it is important to carry a travel toothbrush kit. After reinserting the aligner, use a chewie, and remember to place the chewie back in the case as well.
