The recurring pandemic has dealt a heavy blow to all industries, and the dental industry has been particularly hard hit due to the special requirements of epidemic control and its inherent consumer-oriented nature. So where exactly is the future growth point for dental institutions? 

Research has found that, despite the pandemic, the volume of pediatric dental services is steadily increasing.

The transition from primary to permanent teeth spans a long period, during which children's orthodontic and facial management needs grow rapidly. Providing whole-periodic oral care services at different stages of a child's growth may become the key lever for the future orthodontic market.

To help dental clinics better develop their pediatric dental services, Dr.Clear Aligner, together with the IDSO Dental Alliance and numerous industry experts, hosted the Life-Cycle Orthodontic Summit. Through differentiated courses, the summit aimed to guide clinics into the new era of whole-periodic treatment for children and uncover future opportunities and growth points.


At 9:20 AM on August 11, the Life-Cycle Orthodontic Summit officially began. Dr. Sun Yan from the IDSO Dental Alliance kicked off the event, introducing the IDSO philosophy to both online and on-site audiences. He also explained, in an accessible yet in-depth manner, why clinics should focus on the pediatric dental track and how to leverage data breakthroughs to gain a head start.

Many clinics are currently in a transitional phase. How to effectively utilize existing theoretical data and the operational insights of leading clinics to seize the initiative in an ever-changing landscape is an urgent challenge for all. Dr. Sun's course directly addressed these pain points, offering a multi-dimensional and comprehensive understanding of pediatric dentistry.

Another distinguished speaker in the morning session was Professor Liu Xinqiang, Director of the Orthodontics Department at the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University. He delivered a presentation on "Facial Management During the Mixed Dentition Period – Space Management in Pediatric Clear Aligner Treatment."

Professor Liu provided a comprehensive, systematic, and detailed course covering key topics such as the main types of malocclusion during the mixed dentition period, the causes of malocclusion, and craniofacial skeletal development in children. He supplemented his lecture with representative case analyses of dental arch space management, offering an excellent learning experience for the attending physicians.

In the afternoon, Chief Physician Shu Guang from the Orthodontics Department of the Second Outpatient Clinic, Peking University School of Stomatology, shared insights on "Facial Management in the Permanent Dentition – Systemic Issues in Clear Aligner Therapy and Clinical Strategies."

In orthodontic treatment, the initial position determines the treatment goals and plan design. However, there are currently several debatable issues in clear aligner therapy that may mislead clinicians into making incorrect designs and unfeasible treatment plans.

After analyzing the differences in clinical diagnosis and treatment models between fixed appliances and clear aligners, Dr. Shu pointed out shortcomings in the modeling of mainstream clear aligner systems, including inaccurate occlusal plane positioning, a lack of dynamic occlusal systems, and incorrect tooth movement data.

Subsequently, Dr. Shu demonstrated the latest root-bone system using Dr.Clear Aligner's newest orthodontic design software, Clear Check. This system features AI-reconstructed three-dimensional anatomical structures of the crown, root, and alveolar bone, allowing for intuitive visualization of root-bone relationships. Additionally, a curve coordinate system based on alveolar bone anatomy provides precise feedback on root movement data, more accurately reflecting the direction and magnitude of tooth movement relative to the alveolar bone. This helps clinicians develop credible and feasible treatment plans, making clear aligner diagnosis and design more precise.

Ms. Yang Meina, Founder and Director of Jilin Anhe Dental Clinic and Master of Stomatology, shared her insights on "Dr.Clear Aligner's Strategies for Whole-Periodic Facial Management in Children."

Drawing on over a decade of clinical experience and real-world cases, Ms. Yang highlighted the significant importance of whole-periodic facial management for children and their parents. Through vivid language and relatable examples, she provided attending physicians with a fresh perspective on early orthodontic intervention, helping everyone better understand pediatric dentistry and the concept of whole-periodic care.

Finally, Ms. Liu Ran, Vice President and COO of the IDSO Dental Alliance, explained the key points and challenges in the design and closing of whole-periodic orthodontic products, helping clinics and clinicians enhance their pediatric dental product operations and better serve patients.

She emphasized that in the pediatric dental market, clinics need to support the growth of orthodontists and establish a comprehensive horizontal and vertical product system. From the primary dentition, mixed dentition, to permanent dentition stages, clinics should offer full-lifecycle product services.
