Many patients who have undergone orthodontic treatment elsewhere without achieving the desired results come to ask their doctors why their treatment did not progress well. Today, Dr.Clear Aligner would like to take this opportunity to discuss this issue with everyone. In fact, after orthodontic treatment, there are many important considerations to ensure the desired outcome. Below, Dr.Clear Aligner lists these for you, hoping to help all patients.

Important Notes During Dr.Clear Aligner Treatment

  1. Cooperation from Patients and Parents

As orthodontic treatment takes a long time, patients and their families should be fully prepared mentally. Cooperating with the doctor during this period is essential to achieve satisfactory results. Attend follow-up appointments as scheduled. Avoid being impatient or giving up halfway.

  2. Cleaning the Appliance

For functional orthodontic appliances, do not rinse with boiling water to prevent deformation. Clean the appliance with tap water every morning and evening, brush your teeth, and then reinsert the appliance.

  3. When Dining Out or at Work

Carry a portable toothbrush kit and brush promptly; rinse the appliance after removing it and place it in its case to prevent loss.

4. Initial Discomfort is Normal

Some discomfort is expected when first wearing the appliance. Teeth may feel slightly sore or weak, and mucosal irritation or ulcers may occur. These are normal reactions that typically subside within 3-5 days. If severe pain occurs, seek medical attention promptly.

  5. Dietary Considerations

Avoid biting directly into foods with bones such as pork ribs, chicken legs, and wings, or shellfish and nuts with shells. Remove the meat before eating. Foods with pits like preserved plums, bayberries, and red dates can easily loosen the aligner. Fruits such as apples, peaches, and pears should be sliced or cut into small pieces and chewed with the back teeth, not bitten directly. Avoid candies, peanuts, beef jerky, and similar foods.

  6. Oral Hygiene

After meals, food residue can remain on the aligner, affecting aesthetics and increasing the risk of tooth decay. Therefore, brush your teeth after every meal, for at least 3 minutes each time. Use a professional orthodontic toothbrush, and consider a water flosser, small-headed toothbrush, or interdental brushes.

  7. Timely Follow-up Appointments

Regular follow-up visits as instructed are mandatory during treatment. Failure to attend appointments on time or for extended periods may result in loss of treatment control, abnormal tooth movement, or lack of progress.

  8. Appliance Damage and Repair

If the appliance is damaged, preserve it carefully and do not lose any broken parts. Contact your doctor promptly for repair to avoid affecting the treatment duration and outcome.

Dr.Clear Aligner believes that as long as patients strictly follow the eight precautions mentioned above, their teeth can become aligned and aesthetic sooner. Additionally, Dr.Clear Aligner reminds everyone that orthodontic treatment for misaligned teeth should be performed at a reputable dental institution to ensure treatment safety.
